People who are HIV positive can take care of themselves in many ways. Some people use medical treatments such as drug therapies prescribed by a knowledgeable doctor. Certain drugs can prevent or treat infections that may compromise the immune system.
Some people choose complementary therapies as well as naturopathic remedies that can boost their immune systems. Many people choose combinations of medical and non-medical ways of treating their health. Others concentrate on emotional and spiritual healing. It is up to the individual to choose what they think will work best for them.

We recommend a set of general guidelines that apply to everyone, regardless of which treatment options they choose. A healthy diet, plenty of rest, regular exercise, stress reduction and spiritual peace of mind are beneficial goals for everyone, especially people living with HIV/AIDS (PHAs). Reaching these goals may require making changes to the individual's way of life. These changes can be made more easily with the help and support of others.
